High Energy High? Not yet, but maybe next year! With every band member aged 14 and younger, this alt-rock band from Gilbert, Arizona has been getting a lot of buzz. They have performed at Arizona Cardinals Stadium, major malls in the Phoenix area and city, school and charity events. They've also taken 1st place at the Music & Arts Center's Annual Garage Band Competition.
When Austin Jones, then a 5th grader at Sonoma Ranch Elementary in
Gilbert, heard that Sam Hirsche (another 5th grader) could "own him" in
guitar, Austin invited Sam over for the challenge. As it turns out, whoever spread the rumor didn't realize that Sam was a drummer, not a guitarist. But that turned out to be a good thing.
The two boys started jamming but soon realized they needed a bass player. So
they recruited their friend Treven Martin, who picked up the bass very quickly. Sam's Dad, who grew up drumming in bands, heard the boys practicing one day and realized they could use a "coach". He also recruited his other
son, Noah, to play keyboard for the band.
"My Own Miracle" is the first single from the band's debut EP, "Life As We Know It," which is available on i-Tunes, CD Baby and other online retailers. Fans can also find Jinx the Tragedy on Facebook or at www.jinxthetragedy.com.
Samantha Smith
Singer/songwriter Samantha Smith is young but her lyrics have a maturity beyond her 17 years. Her voice has a soulful reminiscent of Jewel and Sarah McLachlan. Samantha performs on piano and guitar, her songs evoking strong emotions with beautiful melodies and poignant lyrics.
Samantha's family life which is immersed in music, culture and travel have cultivated in her a deeper appreciation of the world. Preferring jeans, T-shirts or thrift shop threads over the trendy fashions of her peers, Smith has summered in France since her birth, is fluent in French, and has had the opportunity to play music festivals both here and abroad.
Playing piano since age 8, and guitar from age 11, she composes and performs original music but also sprinkles her favorite classic rock cover songs into her live sets. Last year, Smith embraced the chance to go up against much older contenders in the Southern California Music Awards, and began building beyond her local following via her Sonicbid.com and MySpace.com sites.
Samantha is also the founder of the non-profit organization, Young Singers of Orange County. YSOC is a community-service organization that provides opportunity for children ages 5-14 to participate in a choir which performs concerts at schools, hospitals, elderly-care facilities and community events.
Academics are also important to Smith, a 4.2 GPA-student who recently made the decision to leave her local high school to attend an elite Orange Coast College program that will enable her to complete high school early and enter college at an advanced sophomore level.
Samantha is just 17 years old but her music is insightful and evokes real emotion for someone so young.
Editors Note:Sam is trully fantastic in her eloqution and searching lyrics.

Jan Swerts (Sint-Truiden, Belgium, May 24, 1977) is a Belgian composer and pianist, whose minimal music is heavily influenced by the work of Wim Mertens, Philip Glass, Johann Johannsson and Max Richter.
In 2010 he released the album “Weg” (“Gone” or “A Way” in English); a collection of 8 melancholic songs about certain streets in Belgium: Aalsterweg 10, Driekruisenstraat 107,
Singelstraat 11, Alkenstraat 9...are all addresses that made a lasting impression on the composer.
The music of Jan Swerts is often referred to as minimal music, ambient or contemporary classic, proving Joni Mitchell was right when she said: there's comfort in melancholy. Editors Note:I really enjoy Jan's compositions as well as his pen and inks. He seems to be a multi-dimensional artist; the likes of Bob Dylan, Queen Victoria
and yours truly (Marcus Walton); all who also share the same birthday!

Steven Halliday
Steven has always had a great appreciation for music, and started composing music in his early teens. After high school,
Steven started his singer/songwriter career. Steven was invited by the Tyler Music Group in Nashville, Tennessee to record a
demo CD with them. The tracks turned out so great, to everyones surprise, that they asked Steven to record the whole album.
After a few months of work in the recording studio the aptly named “Beginners Luck” was born. Halliday belongs in a
genre of his very own. His unique and completely original style brings a fresh perspective to the music world.
Lonely and the Socialites
I haven't listened to a fresh voice that has captured the essence of Bob Dylan in a long time. This group is bang on; from the mouth harp to the sultry lyrics in "Nowhere
Without You". Click on the campy napkin cd cover of Mirrored Diary to see a smart and refreshing music video filmed by Yassine El Mansouri in Washington DC, May of 2010.

Greg Manning
Every now and then a uniquely talented artist, through fresh and innovative musical content, transfers a resurgence of life into the veins of a genre. This is indicative of Greg Manning’s passion to reach his listeners through melodic tunes that reach your soul.
Greg has toured with Brian McKnight, Kirk Whalum, Will Downing, Richard Elliot, Gerald Albright, Chante Moore and Mindi Abair just to mention a few. Greg who is also the former music director for GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist Jonathan Butler, guides his listeners on
a journey of life’s influences compiled into his highly anticipated solo project titled The Calling. The Calling is as soulful as it is spiritual and relevant. Soul-Jazz at its best.
After touring extensively for ten years throughout the U.S., Europe, South Africa, and the U.K., Greg made a conscious decision to come off the road. Not too long thereafter, he started composing music for film and television. Yet, he felt it was time to do his own
project. “I think for any sideman, he says, there always comes a time when you hear your own voice and you want to do your own thing,” and that’s exactly what he did. Greg began writing for The Calling in 2004 and officially released his solo project
worldwide on iTunes on April 5, 2010. “I wanted the project to be a great, coherent, accessible CD and not some hybrid thing that doesn't please anybody fully.” There is a lot to be said about Greg Manning the artist, but it would only take away from what his music has to say.
Greg Manning is a Berklee College of Music alum and an amalgam of cultures. He was born in Nigeria and raised in Switzerland. Greg moved to Los Angeles in 2002 and has had an incredible career. He is a three-time certified platinum producer for Universal Music Switzerland, and has
had several Swiss Chart toppers since 1996.
Greg Manning, the man and his music. Soul-Jazz at its best!
Jeffrey Wilgus
It is much more than his wonderful baritone-alternately sensitive, soaring, and soulful-that draws everyone in: he simply has them wrapped around his finger.
A pure natural on stage, Jeffrey chats easily between songs, taking the audience on a journey that includes everything from bawdy stories to heartfelt confessions:
in short, a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It's no surprise, then, that most everyone in the audience has the feeling that they are not only listening to a
great singer-but are being entertained by a true stage presence. Billy Joel meets the cast of Rent. Powerful vocals combined with thought-provoking songs and personal observations.
Anyone that listens to his music will form a personal relationship.
Stephen Winston
Stephen has written and recorded over 30 original songs at his private studio "Overlook Studio" on his property in Colorado. Stephen performs all lead vocals, some backing vocals, all piano and much of the acoustic guitar work He assembled some of the best session players in Colorado to accompany him on the songs. For orchestration parts on some songs he used members of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra arranged and conducted by Dave Hansen. The material was Co- produced, engineered, mixed and mastered by Michael Pfeifer.
The songs are all stories about subjects ranging from Ernest Hemingway (The Last Buccaneer) to a friend who perished in the south tower on 9-11 (Lost Soul) to playoff baseball in Yankee Stadium in October(All Quiet in the Bronx) to the snake oil evangelist selling religion (Devils Breath) and many more.
"I taught myself to play piano and guitar mostly in college. I would sneak into the auditorium on campus when it was vacant and play the Steinway concert grand piano for hours on end, learning to play, learning to sing. Graduated, pursued the American dream and did well enough to spend all my time making music. Built my studio in Colorado and began working with Michael Pfeifer, Producer-Engineer, Musician extraordinaire. Moved to California and just completed my new studio, Overlook West and I am back at writing and recording. My songs are all stories about events and people in my life and observations of this crazy world we live in.".
Stephen is currently writing and recording new material at his new studio in the San Diego area.
Editors Note:We are pleased to feature a musician who now calls San Diego home even if it is only half-time. Maybe Stephen will write something for our technical pages?
