Sam Hankins

Samuel Hankins was born into a musical family. His maternal grandmother played the piano and was a tremendous gospel singer. His father played harmonica and vocals in various R & B bands. His brother plays the piano, majors in voice and teaches elementary school music. So it was inevitable that Sam's musical education would begin at an early age. Encouraged by his father, Samuel Hankins Sr., young "Hank" began with the guitar. In middle school he switched to the trumpet. Again, encouraged by his father, Sam began playing in churches, professional bands and orchestras.
Sam Hankins Band Director, music educator, trumpeter and arranger, Sam Hankins has created a diverse and entertaining musical expression that displays yet another facet of his talent. "Dream Catcher" displays a playful yet pensive approach to the contemporary music scene. As a musician and educator Sam paints with each selection based on their titles. My favorite.... well let's put it this way, "Latin Dance" is literally that. Listen and enjoy. PJ Rogers, D.M.A.

Wes and Victoria
Wes and Victoria began their musical sojourn in San Antonio, Texas. Their first music business mentor was Augie Meyers, keyboardist and songwriter for the legendary band The Sir Douglas Quintet. Their initial lessons were conducted over piping hot bowls of caldo and Augie's homemade grilled cheese sandwiches where Augie explained the basics of gigging and shared stories of his exploits in the music business, including teaching John Lennon about the accordion and Vox organ and recording with Bob Dylan. Putting Augie's guidance to work the duo started gigging in the San Antonio and South Texas area in a variety of their own bands, including a folk act named Little Smoke and a rock/punk act called Puffin. During this time Wes started writing original material and the duo dropped the majority of the cover material they once performed. Looking to expand the audience for their original work, they relocated up the road to Austin, Texas.
The duo has returned with the 2012 release of the "EVOLUTION REVOLUTION"EP. The EP features three versions of the title track. There is an acoustic coffeehouse version, a layered "Phil Spector Wall of Sound 60's" version, and a dub step electronic remix track by Scarecrow Adams. The spiritually infused lyrics touch on the timeliness of the world in change yet relate to the personal journey as well. Wes and Victoria enlisted the help of NYC session guitarist Eddie Weiss and LA Session Veteran Justin Z Walden for the project as well. The release is available on iTunes, Emusic and other major e-retailers.

Alex the Great

Alex the Great is an independent Alternative-Folk-Rock act based in Brighton, UK… But really they are much more than that.
Alex the Great brings together a far-reaching scale of musical styles – from catchy, guitar-driven tunes to their slowed down, Dylanesque folk songs, it is hard to ignore the cohesive-yet-varied set lists and true dedication that are obvious in each of the band’s performances. While the crowd dances along, each musician brings a sense of individuality to every song, creating a sound that is truly unique. Their music is for everyone, from anywhere.
The band was formed by Steven Voges, Vlad Matveikov, Juan Johansson and Hamid Mashali. They came together in East London in 2010, but their history doesn’t begin there. Though the guys have such diverse citizenships as Dutch-Caribbean, Czech-Argentine, Danish-Brazillian and Columbian-Persian, they all met and became friends while attending high school in Madrid. Needless to say they have an international reach.
Now based in Brighton, Alex the Great released their EP entitled The Saint in January 2012. The EP was recorded and mixed by Alex the Great at Strongroom Studios, as well as in the band’s home studio, and later mastered at the great Abbey Road Studios. Featuring several guest musicians on instruments ranging from cello to flute to piano to slide guitars, the EP allowed the band to go in a new direction and fully round out their sound. Having played at venues such as Cargo, the Barfly and the Enterprise in London, as well as De Roots in The Hague and The Painted Lady during Toronto’s Canadian Music Fest 2011, Alex the Great is ready to bring their sound to a wider audience.

Heather O'Neill

Heather O'Neill is a guitarist and singer songwriter. She has gained praise for her unique lyric style and eclectic musical compositions.
Heather is known for her live shows .Where she routinely performs little comic monologues in between her songs. O'Neill refers to it as "provocative blues with a comedy chaser. She has toured all over the U.S. and the U.K. playing clubs, coffeehouses, colleges, cabarets, and festivals. As well as enjoying airplay on podcasts, women's, college, and international radio.
A Feminist Manifesto is the latest album. It is infused with funk and R&B. A beautiful juxtaposition to the powerful and sometimes heart breaking lyrics. On this venture, Heather's strong solo performance is enhanced by horns, bass, drums, and violin accompaniment from Jerry Goodman of Mahavishnu Orchestra .
Bringing dreamy, toe tapping music and a sense of humor to serious feminist issues. Heather had this to say about the project "I wanted to make a record that addresses the nuances of misogyny in a modern setting . I feel as though art is at its best in the form of community outreach."

Andy Palmer

Gritty, contemplative, dark but positive. Palmer and Grub Street Writer lean towards the shaded side of the street, while maintaining a hopeful element that keeps it from jumping off the cliff and always looking up.
Erstwhile Brooklyn public defender, songwriter Andy Palmer leads Grub Street Writer. Three years of living and working in the trenches of Brooklyn's underbelly, clearly provide fodder for his raw lyrical material and boom/clank of a sound.
Palmer's debut album, 'Sometime Around', was awarded a 'best of 2011' status by Westword, Denver's premier alternative paper. Without exception, the album has received excellent reviews. Based in part on the success of 'Sometime Around', Palmer was hand picked by producer/engineer Warren Huart (Aerosmith, The Fray, Matisyahu...) to work together on an EP in January 2012.

Editor's Note: My own mother passed this January. She was not a musician or artist but someone whose art was giving to others. My heart goes out to all those in our lives who have made us richer having known them. We will miss you Whitney Houston as well.
