Ian Raven

Born in deepest Africa to a German mother and a Belgian father, Ian Raven (real name Jan Walravens) spent his childhood in Germany in a family that had dedicated itself to music for several generations. His grandfather was a conductor whilst his mother was a concert pianist and piano teacher for his entire life. Jan and his two brothers therefore all ended up following musical careers: Jan is a successful pianist and composer; Karel is a violinist who plays in several orchestras and various contemporary classical music formations in Germany and is currently director of the Bonn music school; and Werner worked first as a sound engineer for public radio and television in Düsseldorf and is now an independent producer in Bavaria and an amateur jazz guitarist.
Raven started piano lessons at the tender age of six, before starting to write his own compositions as a teenager. In parallel to his studies at the Philosophy and Literature Faculty of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Raven made the first recordings of his personal compositions in the early 1980s in Brussels. He also adopted his stage name of Ian Raven when he released his first albums in France in 1983. During his career, Raven has put his name to over 200 original works and it is a safe bet that he will not leave it at that! “Mélodies” is Raven’s third American album completed essentially in Florida since his move to Miami in 2004.

Magnolia Memoir

Magnolia Memoir didn't start out as a band; originally, it was the title of a journal vocalist Mela Lee compiled while in post-Katrina New Orleans, on the trail to fill in some blanks concerning her late father’s life. "He died when I was a little girl," says Lee, "and all I knew about him was what I was told when I was young. They tell you different stories once you've grown up." Memories and fragments and emotions coalesced into songs, and Mela realized that she’d need to strike a spark with musicians capable of bringing the same level of passion and expression to their instruments that she brought to her melodies and lyrics.
Enter multi-instrumentalist Alexander Burke, whose résumé includes a degree in Jazz Composition from Columbia College, studies at USC's Film Scoring program, a stint as musical director for Chicago's Second City comedy troupe, and an appearance on Margaret Cho's Grammy-nominated Cho Dependent alongside the likes of Fiona Apple and Grant Lee Phillips. The chemistry was immediate and powerful. Not only was Burke blown away by Lee’s vocal prowess — it's not every day one runs into a singer with an accessible five-octave range — but he was astonished by the sophistication of the then-neophyte songwriter's compositional skills.
With the addition of bassist Gordon Bash, guitarist Aron Forbes, and drummer Matt Lucich, the ensemble required to commit The Perfect Crime was complete. Burke's prior experience with Second City translated to the band in a rather unexpected way, as Magnolia Memoir’s members incorporated the sketch improv concept into the musical realm, composing in the moment, and quite literally, on the spot. In fact, several of the songs on The Perfect Crime, including "Let It Go" and "Anymore," arose from what Alex calls "this little game we play called 'A Moment’s Notice.'"
The final piece was Grammy-winning producer Charles Goodan, widely recognized for his work with the Dust Brothers, Santana, Beck, Linkin Park, and others. His job wasn't so much to shape Magnolia Memoir as to assist them in translating their vision into reality. Case in point: at one juncture in the sessions, when Goodan realized they weren’t quite in the pocket, he called a halt to the recording, dragged the band onto a basketball court, and had them shoot free throws in order to regain entry into the studio. "It was like 90 degrees, and we were all sweating like crazy," recalls Mela, "but it worked." She's quick to point out that she wasn't the last one of the band to drop one through the hoop, but she's coy about who actually was. "Just that I wasn't last, that's enough," she says. Right after that, they cut the song "Chelsea," in which the protagonist is described as "one hot mess." Who said art doesn't imitate life?

Ari Neufeld

Raised by missionaries and in performing arts troops from a very young age, Ari Neufeld has traveled most of the world engaging in a bright spectrum of trades, circumstances and creations. His onstage presence is augmented by a rich history of performance in a wide variety of arenas. From in-house lounge artist, to music teacher and workshop enthusiast, to folk festival involvement (largest audience: 16,000, Salmon Arm Roots & Blues, main stage), to house-concerts (toured Canada from Victoria to St John’s with VIA Rail Canada, while performing on board in the lounge cars), to community contributions (gallery, theatre and event performances), Ari has averaged 150-250 live performances a year and has serenaded over 120 weddings in the last 8 years.
Ari’s passions as an artist supersede his one man ambush (guitar, stompbox, body percussion, banjo, piano, harmonica) with interests in comedy, painting, carpentry, cooking, theatre, architecture, sculpting, writing, photography, pyrography, film and being a lover and a father. All of these texture his stories, melodies and rhythms with unique insight and disarmingly hilarious honesty.
Presently, Ari lives on an acreage in Penticton, British Columbia (Canada) with his wife and 3 kids, working out of a wood shed-converted studio.

Darren Hincks

Darren Hincks' hard-working background is the key to his inspired songwriting talent. As Darren explains, "When I was ten years old, my Dad bought me a guitar and taught me a few chords. After a while, I got to where I could play music pretty well. The music allowed me to dream of a life I thought I might never have, and to dream of places I thought I might never see. When you come from a life of hard work, you learn how to dream." The songs that Darren Hincks' composes are bits and pieces of the life of a hard-working dreamer. His songs are ones that the common man, and woman, can relate to…songs about hopes and dreams, love and heartache. Listen to his music and get to know Darren Hincks.

James Harker

James Harker's three-year journey to produce his debut album The Red Room began at the 2008 Edinburgh Festival, where he had performed regularly in a dingy room at the foot of North Bridge which had been converted into the 'Red Room': a sumptuous boudoir for immersive, avant-garde music and drama.
"The Red Room, and the whole bubble surrounding it was a chaotic, volatile experience. Reality had been barred entry, and consequently everything – and everyone – became intensified and unstable," says James. "On the one hand, it had been huge fun. But when I came up for air I was conscious of so many things: the fickleness of identity, the unpredictability of love, the conflict of emotion and morality; but, as Boy George pointed out, there’s an art to feeling sorry for yourself." And so, James began to document his feelings in the 12 songs that came to constitute The Red Room.
A year later James found himself with a window of time to record the album. It was now or never, but he was also completely broke. So, he hooked-up with a string quartet at his old university, and with an old school-friend who had a semi-professional studio in the Derbyshire countryside. No money would change hands, and James made ends meet working as a restaurant piano player, an actor, and a short film soundtrack composer.

Kathy Von
Kathy von rolled into Nashville just over a year ago and has since created quite a buzz with her self-described Girly Pop / Country Rock flavored grooves. Kathy von has a heart of gold, a smile that puts all around her at ease, a kind word for anyone who crosses her path, and her music reflects this humbleness and sincerity.
Bright-eyed singer/songwriter Kathy von rolled into Nashville just over a year ago and has since created quite a buzz with her self-described Girly Pop / Country Rock flavored grooves. Kathy von has a heart of gold, a smile that puts all around her at ease, a kind word for anyone who crosses her path, and her music reflects this humbleness and sincerity. Kathy von has an uplifting lyrical style and a smooth, harmonious vocal impossible to shake once you hear her perform. She has managed to create her own unique cross-genre style, and her sound is often described as a blend of The Cranberries and Mindy Smith, with a touch of Alison Krauss in the mix.
Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Kathy emigrated to USA with her family in 2000 at the age of 24. Although she didn’t pursue her musical aspirations until she was in her late 20’s, music has always been a key element in her life. “I have distinct memories of singing along to my parents records over and over again all day long (Rod Stewart, Elton John and The Carpenters come to mind) and I thought that’s what everyone did until I grew up and realized that not everyone lives and breathes music like I do.” The music gene runs in her family as well, her Dad has a history of playing in bands and her brother, Stephen, is also a singer / songwriter.

Chris Slanton

The next single from Chris Slanton with his distinctive branded sound and melodic elements is the up-tempo dance floor filler, ‘But I Cannot Lose You’. This composition deserves to be a hit. The mix is a stirring combination of dance and pop music, which has an incredibly fast tempo (140bpm) perfectly harmonizing with the lyrics of the song. The lyrical subtext adds a special thrill to the song, Chris sings as if his heart is breaking… It won’t leave listeners indifferent. The song’s musicality comes from a rich range of artists such as Depeche Mode, New Order and Goldfrapp. Mixed with hints and textures similar to Metronomy, The XX and Crystal Castles, Chris’s new single is a modern dance sound displaying a penchant for melodies and beats surely made for the dance floor and the radio! ‘But I Cannot Lose You’ is a perfectly balanced mix of classic Human League and the new generation of electronic artists such as Metronomy but with a highly original melodic instinct making Chris Slanton a name to watch out for!

Del Rico

Del Rico was born in the United States and now lives abroad in Europe. At an early age, Del Rico joined pop art band, Fear of Man in Washington D.C. Enjoying moderate success with the band, after three years later, Del Rico found a good nitch as bassist/guitarist and vocalist as a backing musician for well known artists in studio and on tour. After many years, Del Rico decided to take time off and moved to Europe where he found a very influential rich culture and good musical comraderie. In 2009 Del Rico formed the band Crusher Jones with former Seal and Rick Astley Bass player Les Nemes and delivered their debut album on the spanish label "Chivo Records". Such songs as "Wake up Call" and "Love is Gone" which were potential groove movers. After 2 years, Del Rico took again time off to work more on his passion of horseback riding, after a few hardfelt relationship break ups from the heart, Del Rico is back in the songwriting scene with much to tell from his romance torn experiences. "I hope everyone will enjoy and feel good when they listen to the new songs I have to give to the world, I think many people can relate to where I'm coming from with the message that's being brought out through my music, Thank you for listening!"

Anson Carter

Anson Carter is a big man with a big voice and he fronts a band with a sound that’s as deep and wide as the Texas landscape he loves. Carter became an underground phenomenon in 2007, when he cut the anthemic ode to Corpus Christi’s favorite fast food "Whataburger #5." Carter’s bold vocal style and the song’s punchy rhythm track made fans out of everyone who heard it.
Carter’s new album, 100 Degrees In The Shade, was an in house effort. Carter collaborated with fellow musician, Mike Bowen, and produced it together. "We started recording in October of 2010," Carter explains. "It took us almost a year to complete, not because we were being picky, but because my touring and work schedules limited us to a couple of hours a week.
The energy Carter and the band put into their shows is evident on every track. Everything was laid down live, with no autotuning. If a part didn’t work, they played it over until all the songs came together. Chad Hudson, Mickey Jack Cones and Arlis Albritton wrote "One of Those Days," a mid-tempo rocker and the album’s first single. The song looks back on a summer full of home runs, dips in the creek and slow dances with your sweetie. "Chad’s a great songwriter and a native Texan" Carter says. "He captures the kind of summer feelings we dream about all winter long.” The stinging guitar solo and subtle cymbal accents add to the tune’s appeal.

Sean Patrick

Sean Patrick is a singer/songwriter from New Jersey.Sean released his first album/cd Invisible on Nov.2007. Sean Patrick has performed in many charity events over the past few years such as JamForLife and Compassion International.Sean released his mini-pop-opera in 2010 entitled In the Midst of the Raging Storm. Sean Patrick has worked with Dove award winning producer/engineer Salvatore (Plinky) Giglio and, engineer/producer/studio musician Thomas Reock.
Just the concept of creating an album that flows as one cohesive unit is a dying breed in today’s era of the "download each song independently" mentality. Winds and a ringing bell open the album. As the introductory "In the Midst of the Raging Storm" continues, a processed spoken vocal line brings a theatric and ominous mysterious tone. Symphonic elements and piano merge on the piece. It’s a fairly short piece that builds to more dramatic power later. A killer hard rock jam makes up the melody of "You." There is an almost Beatles-like element to it. There’s a tasty, retro rock jam mid-track with a classy guitar solo. A mellower movement that follows brings some progressive rock to the proceedings. "Something About Here" has even more of those Beatles-references.

Ken Coulson

As Ken continued along his journey of musical exploration, he continued to develop himself as a songwriter. In 2008, Ken was introduced to Raymond Bryant through his friend Kim Geary -- the result was his next project, Kite.
Reenergized and growing through the new relationship, Ken and Ray with producer/engineer Alex Theoret and drummer Hari Ganglberger made 3 exploding groove albums laced with funk, reggae, rock, and pop: the self-titled Kite in 2008, Future Perfect in 2009 and Exercise in Levitation in 2010. The new albums represented a musical growth for the group and their families and a spiritual one for Ken. Kite solidified Ken’s goal of changing the lives around him through music and also helped him to develop a broader understanding of music itself. Kite’s deep funk and rock and roll groove, complete with soaring guitar, fretless bass, and explosive drumming represented a watershed musical experience for Ken.
In 2009, Kim, now married to Ray, began to sing with the group, who had begun to trend toward acoustic playing. Ken’s songwriting was also taking influences from Americana and folk music. The Other Corner Jug Band was formed on fine fall day in October. With themes on raising children, the earth, religion, to light hearted songs about loving one’s life and opportunities;
OCJB released 2 CDs, Other Corner Jug Band in 2009 and Grow in 2010. To this day, the band continues to write and perform these and new music, enjoying a healthy exposure through radio and grassroots concert performances.
In the winter of 2010, Ken began a new vein of writing and rhythmic playing that has become Gatsby’s Green Light. The songs flowing forth from the inspiration of the project seem to fit the concept of a bigger band, formats of multi-instrumental musicians and working equally-well as solo acoustic performance. Ken has since embraced the understanding that there are no genres only music, reinforced itself in world music that fuses Latin, Americana, pop, island, theatre and more.
